Brieven aan de Meesters II

‘Music can, in the magic of the moment, be meaningful as a tangible, concrete reality.’

The beauty and emotion that music brings is for me – in the midst of a world full of unrest and conflict – a beacon of truth, strength, comfort and authenticity. Music can, in the magic of the moment, be meaningful as a tangible, concrete reality. At the same time, it dissipates just as quickly as soon as the last sounds have died away. The idea that there are flesh-and-blood people at the heart of these magical creations touches me deeply.
Each composer devotes himself completely and subserviently to the expression of their ideals, struggles and deepest feelings. By writing them letters, I try to connect the vulnerability of their humanity with their brilliant music.

In this program I recite my own letters to composers that are dear to me and perform a selection of their music. This program is based on my book Brieven aan de Meesters II.

Among others music by and letters to:

Gabriel Dupont, Melanie Bonis, Sergei Rachmaninoff, Johannes Brahms, Florence Price and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. This program is versatile and can be adjusted throughout season 25/26.
