Because Wagner’s orchestral forces were often massive, the piano served as the primary tool to spread his music to the public before the era of recordings. His great friend and eventual father-in-law, Franz Liszt, created legendary piano transcriptions of Wagner’s operatic works. This solo program is very versatile and can vary from transcriptions by Liszt, Busoni and Stradal to Godowksy and transcriptions by Camiel Boomsma himself.
In addition, there is a program for two piano’s, together with pianist Filippo Tenisci, consisting of transcriptions by Alfred Pringsheim. Alfred Pringsheim (1850–1941) was a prominent German mathematician and art collector, remembered for his intense lifelong devotion to the composer Richard Wagner. Pringsheim was not only a mathematician but also a talented musician. He transcribed and arranged various works by Wagner.
